Cross-country skiing at Happy Jack, Laramie, Wyoming

I was born and raised on a 4th generation dairy farm in Te Puke, New Zealand. Growing up, I was a kid with lots of energy and found running as an outlet - it all started with my mum telling me to run laps around the house (outside) so she could have some peace and quiet. We were fortunate that the ocean and fishing was always were the family spent time together, and it’s where I feel the most calm. Despite my love for home and family, I took the opportunity to move to the United States for university and to pursue a running scholarship.

In the US, I landed about as far from the ocean as it gets; I landed in Laramie, WY. I moved ‘sight unseen’, and although it took some time, I’ve learned to appreciate the “prairie sea”- the golden and brown of the Rocky Mountain prairie that surrounds Laramie.
